Lakehurst Man Charged With Animal Cruelty

LAKEHURST - On December 29, Jason R. Prayne, 31 of Pinehurst Estates, was arrested for animal cruelty by Ptl. Tom Bruce.

On December 29, Lakehurst Police were dispatched to the Pinehurst Estates section of the Borough for a reported animal cruelty complaint.

Upon arrival, the complainant advised police he witnessed his neighbor strike a puppy, breaking a rake over the animal's back because it was eating holiday wrapping paper from a garbage can. Upon further investigation, the subject, Prayne, was taken into custody after he admitted striking the dog with the rake. He was transported to the Lakehurst Police Department, where he was charged with Animal Cruelty and released on a summons pending court.

The dog, which was a three-month old pit bull puppy, was removed from the residence by Manchester Twp. Animal Control and taken to Ocean County Veterinary Hospital for a possible fractured leg. The dog will remain at the animal shelter pending disposition in Court.
