Fifty-Six Recruits Graduate Ocean County Police Academy
LAKEWOOD - For almost 24 weeks, 56 police recruits from across Ocean County were put through their paces in academics, physical fitness and marksmanship.
The 56 successfully completed their time at the Ocean County Police Academy and were recognized during recent graduation ceremonies.
"These men and women have given it their all to become law enforcement officers," said Freeholder Director John P. Kelly, who serves as director of law and public safety. "My colleagues on the Board of Freeholders and I extend our congratulations to each new officer and wish them well as they join the ranks of their respective departments."
Six of the graduates will join the ranks of the Ocean County Sheriffs Department. "We are very proud of these new sheriff's officers," said Sheriff William L. Polhemus, who oversees the police academy. "We know they have been trained well and are confident they will wisely use the tools they have been provided during their time at the academy."
Graduation ceremonies were held at Georgian Court University. The keynote speaker was Ocean County Prosecutor Thomas F. Kelaher.
Patrick J. Mazzella, Long Beach Township Police Department, was presented with the James J. Tracey Leadership Award from the Ocean County Emerald Society and Peter L. Thorpe, Point Pleasant Beach Police Department, received the George Haines Award presented by the 200 Club.
Receiving class awards were: James A. Seidenfaden, Long Beach Township Police Department, high academic; Peter L. Thorpe, Point Pleasant Beach Police Department, high overall; Marc L. Morgan, Point Pleasant Beach Police Department, high physical fitness and Carl A. Basile, Toms River Police Department, high marksmanship and distinguished expert perfect score.
Graduates attaining a perfect score in one or more of the three qualifying firearms rounds were: Joseph J. Borchester, Christopher D. Cerullo, Donald J. Fazio, Ralph C. Laudicina Jr., Jose Marrero Jr., Leonard Nieves Jr., Erik R. Sain, Randy G. Slawsky, Mark M. Catalina, Jared A. England, William Joule, Fred. P. Lisanti, David J. Moody, Daniel M. Rac, James A. Seidenfaden and Peter L. Thorpe.
