WALKWAY A WINDOW TO THE PAST
TOMS RIVER - Anne Asay, Regent of the Joshua Huddy Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, explains how Capt. Joshua Huddy lost his life as a result of the British attack on the Toms River Blockhouse during the American War of Independence. With her are, from left, Toms River Mayor Paul C. Brush, Ocean County Historical Museum Curator Patricia Burke and Toms River Township Clerk J. Mark Mutter. To recall the attack's 225th anniversary, the area between the Toms River Town Hall and the Ocean County Library has been designated as "Huddy Walk" in honor of the patriot. Event organizers hope it also will encourage pedestrians to use it as they walk between Toms River Founder's Day festivities and the historic reenactments in Huddy Park on June 2. That route will cross multi-lane W. Water Street at the Allen Street traffic light instead of Robbins Street, which has no traffic control.
