Manchester Graduates Among Those Completing EMT Training Program
OCEAN COUNTY - Manchester's Michael Bartley, Denise Bruschi, Lucy Childs, Raymond Hallock and Kenneth Lemaszewski became part of an elite group recently when they completed their EMT training.
Following 120 hours of classroom study and rigorous hands-on training, 40 new emergency medical technicians successfully completed their EMT basic requirements and received their certification.
"These men and women will now join with their local first aid squads and emergency medical services," said Freeholder Director John P. Kelly, who serves as director of law and public safety. "They will provide a service to their communities that is just invaluable. As a board, we congratulate them on completing the training and want to thank them for their service."
Graduation ceremonies for the new EMT's were held at the Ocean County Training Center, where students completed their course work and hands-on training. Students also spent 10 additional hours in a local emergency room assisting hospital personnel.
"We are pleased to be able to provide this facility for the students and instructors who give their time and talent to training these men and women to be the finest EMTs they can be," Kelly said. "We receive great cooperation from the hospitals and the Monmouth Ocean (MONOC) Hospital Services Corp. in providing this training."
Upon completion of the required curriculum, each student must score 70 percent or higher on a 100 question written final examination. Students must also pass a practical skills examination, demonstrating that they are mentally and physically prepared for the challenges that lie ahead.
"The EMT program demands focus, dedication and sacrifice," said Stephen J. Brennan, the county's Emergency Medical Services Coordinator.
Charles E. Livezey, supervisor of Emergency Medical Services Education for MONOC South, told the graduates that completion of this training was the first step in their careers as EMTs.
"The field of EMS is constantly changing," Livezey said. "We have given you the skills. We challenge you to go out there and to keep learning."
Receiving the John G. Glowacki Award for Academic Excellence during the graduation was Timothy Polyard of the Stafford Township EMS.
