Officials Offer Back To School Safety Tips For Consumers
OCEAN COUNTY - County officials are advising consumers to pay close attention when back to school shopping.
"With the beginning of the school year quickly approaching, we want to remind all Ocean County residents to be savvy shoppers in order to save themselves from being overcharged on school supplies," said Freeholder Director John P. Kelly, who also serves as director of law and public safety.
To protect yourself while back to school shopping, make sure the shelf price and or the advertised price matches the scanner price on your receipt.
Freeholder Joseph H. Vicari, liaison to the Ocean County Consumer Affairs Department, suggests that if you think there is a problem with your purchase, first ask the manager or owner to resolve the problem. If you are not satisfied or have a complaint, contact the Ocean County Consumer Affairs Weights and Measures Division.
"We are here to insure that Ocean County consumers can have confidence when shopping," Vicari said.
According to Vicari, inspectors from the Department of Consumer Affairs, Division of Weights and Measures, have been closely monitoring Ocean County school supply stores. Businesses found overcharging back to school shoppers are subject to fines or possible action in municipal court.
