Homecoming King And Queen Candidates Strut Their Stuff By Megan O'Connell, High School Correspondent
Halftime at the Manchester Hawks homecoming football game was full of suspense, as the 10 homecoming nominees drove onto the track looking their best.
The five senior king candidates included Tyler Nadolny, Sean Conniff, Kevin Fischer, Anthony Alegre and Marvin Brodie.
The five senior nominees for queen were Kristen Earley, Kristina Acquaviva, Roni Chudoba, Danielle Schindeldecker and Carmen Natal.
"The homecoming court represents a diversity of students," said Mrs. Saraceno, English teacher and co-advisor of the Class of 2008. Each of the candidates displayed this diversity in a short biography that was announced as they were escorted onto the field.
Tyler Nadolny's extra curricular activities include wrestling, cross country, track, science club, French club, history club, weightlifting club, rebel club and yearbook. He enjoys ping pong, pool, skateboarding, working out, chilling with his friends, going to the beach, photography, cars and listening to music. He described himself as friendly, caring, kind and funny.
Kristin Earley is known for falling through a ceiling with her Lady Hawks Indoor Soccer team. She plays varsity soccer and plans to continue playing after she graduates. She has numerous medals for running indoor and outdoor track. She likes learning about cars and loves Hondas and Volkswagens. She plans to become a lawyer or a history teacher. She is also very grateful for her supportive family.
Sean Conniff is on the Varsity Volleyball team. He is involved in Leadership Seminar, Interact club and snowboard club. In his spare time, he loves to surf, snowboard, and just spend time with his friends. After high school, he plans to do the NJ STARS program and possibly major in industrial design.
Kristina Acquaviva is captain of the Varsity Swimming team and an active member in science and French club. She enjoys spending time with her friends, family and boyfriend. She plans to go to college to become a physical therapist and hopes to attend Seton Hall University or Stockton College next fall.
Kevin Fischer is the youngest of three siblings. Coming into the school only known as the younger brother of Brian or Caitlyn Fischer, Kevin quickly made a name for himself in ROTC and is this year's cadet commanding officer. He has participated in such sports as soccer and track and is involved with key club and history club.
Roni Chudoba is the youngest of three girls. She has been an all-star cheerleader for the last eight years. In her spare time, she loves to ride her quad and dirt bike. After graduation, she hopes to attend the Art Institute of Chicago or New York to become a fashion designer and hopefully someday have her own line called Chudoba.
Anthony Alegre is a Whiting kid trying to make it in the big world. His friends and family mean the world to him. He enjoys big trucks and going wheeling with his buddies and girlfriend. After he graduates, he hopes to continue working with his dad and keep the family business going.
Danielle Schindeldecker has not wasted a minute of her high school years. She has been active in Student Government, Interact club, Spanish club and Peer Leadership. She has a passion for dance, which has brought so many blessings into her life, such as being selected to attend the Governor's School of Arts, performing in California and London, and working for numerous charities. Danielle wants to thank her family for always supporting her. She will miss the Home of the Hawks after she graduates and goes to college.
Marvin Brodie plays varsity basketball. After graduation, he plans to attend Drexel University or Siena College for basketball and business management. He is pretty much a class clown and loves to play, laugh and have fun. In his spare time, he usually plays basketball and enjoys hanging out with his friends and family, whom he cannot live without.
Carmen Natal is on the varsity track and field team. She likes hanging out with friends, talking and dancing. Her family means the world to her. She goes to vocational school for child care and hopes to be a teacher someday.
Finally, after each nominee was announced and the crowd fell silent, the time came to hear the winners.
The 2007 Homecoming Prince was Marvin Brodie and the 2007 princess was Kristin Earley.
Then, for the moment everyone seemed to be waiting for…taking home the crowns were the 2007 Homecoming King, Tyler Nadolny, and the 2007 Homecoming Queen, Danielle Shindeldecker. Congratulations to all of the nominees and to the winners.
