High School Class Enjoys Fun Pep Rally By Corissa Kurdes, High School Correspondent
Manchester Township High School had a very spirited pep rally on Friday, October 19, full of fun events and a lot of school spirit.
The whole school attended, and it was a very exciting day for the students and teachers. After the JROTC Color Guard presented the nation's colors, Junior Megan Adebamowo sang The Star-Spangled Banner and was met with cheers of applause by her classmates and teachers for such a great job.
At the pep rally, each class cheered for their grade. The whole school was dressed in school colors, blue and gold, to show their Hawk pride.
Sophomore Tori Janick thought that the pep rally was very exciting and she enjoyed preparing for it as a cheerleader, but was nervous at the same time. The cheerleaders, color guard and the band did a good job preparing for the pep rally. The marching band performed a song from their halftime routine and was led by drum majors Heather Wirth and Rinni DeVenero, while the color guard twirled their flags and swords in beat to the music, led by senior Captain Nicole Henry.
Junior Camille Valmon, along with Coach McKennan, accepted an award for 2006- 2007 Girls Varsity Basketball Championship team.
Also Mr. O'Donnell and Mr. Musolf accepted the B South Championship banner for the 2007 Varsity Baseball team, who were a big success in winning almost every game played.
All of the Homecoming Court nominees were called down to the floor to be recognized, and then each fall sports varsity coach was introduced, who then called their captains down to the floor for the annual Captain's Pie Eating Contest.
Sophomore Samantha Dingfeld said that "the most exciting part of the pep rally was the pie eating contest."
Junior Amy Berry, captain of the Girls Varsity Volleyball team, won the contest.
Then, the class officers from all four grades participated in a four-way tug of war. Mr. Moore, Mr. Caswell and Mr. Griffith helped out the freshmen team, but they were no match for the juniors, who won the tug of war thanks to the strength of Julian Meaney.
The students were happy that they got to spend some time out of class, and got to have a little fun. Overall, the pep rally was a success and everyone enjoyed it!
