Health Department Offers Morning Flu Clinics
OCEAN COUNTY - It is not too late to receive protection from the seasonal flu. Persons who have not received a flu shot can take advantage of one of five scheduled influenza clinics and receive immunization protection before the height of the flu season arrives, according to a Health Department spokesman.
"We will be offering flu shots every Wednesday morning from 9 to 11 a.m. through February 13," said Edward Rumen, department public information officer.
The flu shot clinics will be in Area D at the Health Department main building, 175 Sunset Avenue, Toms River.
Rumen said the cost of the vaccination is $20, but the fee is waived for persons who are on Medicare Part B or the federal Railroad Retirement system.
Rumen noted the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention strongly recommends the adult flu shot for: All adults 65 years and older; residents of nursing homes or other long-term care facilities; health care workers and caretakers of the elderly; and persons with specific long-term health problems or compromised immune systems. Rumen said the CDC estimates that the flu kills 36,000 persons within the United States each year.
