Georgian Court To Hold Multimedia Art Show
LAKEWOOD - Patricia A. Sherman's Intervals of Tranquility art exhibit will open at the M. Christina Geis Gallery at Georgian Court University on May 12 and will run through May 30. The artist's reception will be held on May 12 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the gallery. The reception and show are free and open to the public.
Ms. Sherman, a senior art major at Georgian Court University, will be showing works including oil paintings, watercolors and painted and fired clay objects d'art such as bowls or teapots. Loving detail in every work that she creates, especially with oil painting, Ms. Sherman is an American scene painter. Her canvases evoke a photographic transcription of each locality.
"With each piece of artwork, I have tried to create a symbiotic relationship with at least one other piece," says Ms. Sherman. "This helps to generate an overall unity with my work."
After a 35-year hiatus from painting due to, as she describes it, "artist's block," Ms. Sherman began again. "The floodgates held back by all of life's detours have opened, and there is not enough time in the day to make everything I want," she explains. "I want the viewer to enjoy each of my works; in a painting I want you to want to go to the place I have painted, to ask yourself, 'What is around the corner or over the mountain?'"
The M. Christina Geis Art Gallery spotlights the works of established and up and coming artists in diverse media. The gallery is located on the second floor of the Arts and Science Center on Georgian Court's Lakewood campus. Gallery hours are Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, call Kathleen Settles at 732-987-2388.
