Adult Programs
August 6, 6:30 p.m. - Feature Film, "The Other Boleyn Girl." Driven by their
family's blind ambition, sisters Anne and Mary Boleyn compete for the love of the powerful King Henry VIII.
August 7, 2 to 5 p.m. - Crossword Puzzle Tournament. Participants will be allotted time to accurately complete as much of assigned puzzle as possible. The winner is the individual that fills in the most blanks correctly. Registration required.
August 8, 1 to 3 p.m. - Quilting Bee.
Discuss ideas for projects, exchange "how to" tips and share personal experiences.
Bring your quilts in progress and
your sewing machines.
August 10, 2 to 5 p.m. - Feature Film, "Charlie Wilson's War." This film is
based on a true story of Charlie Wilson, a congressman who covertly assisted Afghan rebels in their struggle against the Soviet Union. Rated R.
August 14 and 28, 2 to 4 p.m. - Chicks with Sticks. It is a knitting and crocheting group. Come join us; it's stitches of fun. Bring a friend. Everyone is welcome. Group also meets every Wednesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m.
August 14, 7 p.m. - Library Laffers. This is a physically active group using laughter exercises to improve our health and well-being. This is for all ages and physical abilities. Bring your jokes to be told at an unmonitored session after the exercises. Registration required.
August 19, 2 to 4 p.m. - Writer's Circle. The circle serves as a forum for members to critique each other's works, share their personal writing experiences and discuss important issues.
August 20, 2 and 6:30 p.m. - Foreign Film, "Festival Shorts Collection." "Festival Shorts" consists of eight short
films, each of which was produced in a different country, Spain, Germany, France, Great Britain and Canada. Spanish, German, French with English subtitles. 89 mins.
August 21, 9 a.m. to noon - Free Blood Pressure/Glucose Screening. Provided by the Ocean County Health Dept. and St. Barnabas Health Care System.
August 26, 1 to 7 p.m. - Blood Drive. The American Red Cross is desperately seeking blood donations from the community, as supplies are at their lowest point at this time of year. Please register directly through Red Cross at www. givelife.org or call 1-800-448-3543 or here at the library with help of S.A.I.L. kids.
August 27, 10 a.m. to noon - What is Diabetes? Lifestyle changes could be a step towards diabetes prevention. Irene Spinelli, educator for the Center for Healthy Living, will teach you prevention tips for the American Diabetes Association. Registration required.
August 27, 2 and 6:30 p.m. - Feature Film, "Vantage Point." The shooting of the president of the United States is viewed through the eyes of an American tourist, a TV news producer and the Secret Service agents. 90 mins.
Family Programs
Through August 9 - Lost in the '50s. Get lost in the '50s all week long. Girls, wear your poodle skirts and bobby socks. Guys, slick back your hair and be cool. Hula hoop contests and more. Call the Manchester branch for a complete schedule of events, dates and times. The Roustabouts will perform August 9 at 2 p.m. Get ready to rock 'n' roll. A good time for the whole family!
